Orissa Metaliks Kharagpur steel plant, also known as OMPL, Orissa Metallurgical Industry Pvt Ltd (OMIPL), is a steel plant in Kharagpur, Shyamraipur, West Medinipur, West Bengal, India that operates blast furnace (BF), direct reduced iron (DRI), and induction furnace (IF) technology.

Background

Orissa Metaliks Private Limited (OMPL) was incorporated in July 2006.[1] OMPL comprises of two units: OMPL unit-I and OMPL unit-II after demerger of sevaeral units from Rashmi Metaliks Limited to OMPL in January 2017.[1] OMPL unit-I consists of 6x100 tpd and 1x350 tpd DRI rotary kilns with a capacity of 285 ttpa sponge iron and 28 MW WHRB-, 6 MW AFBC-, and 25 MW CFBC-based captive power plant, while Unit-II comprises of 1500 ttpa iron ore beneficiation plant, 1200 ttpa pellet plant as of 2017.[1][2] A mini blast furnace is now part of Unit-II.[2] The plant comprises of 15 numbers of 20 tonne induction furnaces.[3]
