Orissa Sponge Iron and Steel plant, also known as Odisha Sponge Iron & Steel (OSIL), is a steel plant in Palaspanga, Keonjhar, Odisha, India that operates direct reduced iron (DRI) and induction furnace (IF) technology.

Background
Orissa sponge iron & steel plant was incorporated in 1979 and commercial production began in 1995. The plant has a capacity of 250 ttpa DRI and 100 ttpa steel billet production. The mandate for the company was to establish an alternate route to steelmaking. The plant uses locally available lump iron ore and non-cooking coal to first produce Sponge Iron and power generated from waste heat recovery for steel production.[1] The plant is planning to expand its steel production capacity by 900 ttpa through EAF route, expected to be operational by 2025.[2] A brief write-up submitted for environmental clearance for an expansion project at the plant details expansion of the sponge iron capacity to 676.5 ttpa and induction furnace capacity to 700 ttpa.[3]
The company's annual report 2024-25, mentioned that the they are trying obtain mining clearances to commence mining operations from captive mines to increase steel production capacity.[4]
The annual report also announced the commissioning of a steel melt shop, but the capacity expansion is not clear.[4]
