Background
Özmert Algeria, a Turkish company, was founded in 2007 to produce steel in Algeria.[ 1] The plant, located south of Oran, began construction in 2016 and operations in 2017.[ 2] By 2020, it had expanded to include a second meltshop, with a total capacity of nearly 400 thousand tonnes per annum in steel billets, with a rolling mill to produce rebar.[ 3] The plant uses at least 4 induction furnaces fed primarily with scrap steel.[ 4] [ 5]
