Background

Palanskoye Coal Mine (Паланское месторождение) is a SURFACE mine in Kamchatka, Russia. The Palanskoye coal mine is a small surface coal mine owned and operated by Palana Coal LLC, which is owned by private individuals. It is the only coal mine on the peninsula of Kamchatka.

The mine started operating in 2007. It is located 18 km from the settlement of Palana in the Tigilsky district of Kamchatka. The deposit is divided into two sections with confirmed reserves of 1.53 million tonnes and 2.13 million tonnes respectively. The mine supplies coal exclusively to the heating boilers of the settlement of Palana; annual output has been approximately 20,000 tonnes in recent years, down from 24,000–25,000 tonnes when operations began.

In 9 months of 2024, the coal mine produced 12.5 thousand tonnes of coal.
