Background

Perfect Channel Sdn Bhd was founded in 2005 as a downstream production facility.[1] Kinsteel acquired 51% stake in the plant through Perfect Channel Sdn Bhd in 2006.[2] The plant had suspended operations since May 2019 due to a fire.[3][4]

In April 2020, Kinsteel reached an agreement to enter into a joint venture with China's Tianjin Qiangbang Industrial Co. Ltd to run the steel mill. The JV scheduled to build an electric arc furnace of capacity 500 ttpa in March 2021.[5]

According to a OECD 2022 report, the Gurun plant is planning to install crude steel capacities of 500 ttpa each using induction furnace and electric arc furnace methods.[6] As of November 2023, there has been no updates regarding either of the projects.

In June 2023, Konsortia Etiqa Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of Ann Joo resources Bhd, acquired Perfect Channel Sdn Bhd for RM 10 million.[7]
