Persian Gulf Saba Steel (شرکت صبا فولاد خلیج فارس‎), also known as PGSSCO, Saba Foolad, Saba Fars Gulf Steel Company, is a steel plant in Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan, Iran that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) and direct reduced iron (DRI) technology.

Background

The Persian Gulf Saba Steel plant opened in the industrial zone of Bandar Abbas, Hormuzgan province in 2017.[1][2] The plant currently operates one Midrex-model 1.5 million tonne per year Direct Reduced Iron (DRI) unit, with another 1.76 million tonne per year unit under construction.[3] The existing unit produces primarily Hot-Briquetted Iron (HBI) for export.[4] The company has announced plans to expand the total plant capacity to 4.5 million tonnes per year of DRI and 4.5 million tonnes per year in Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) steelmaking, split between three units.[3]
