Prakash Sponge Iron and Power Challakere steel plant is a steel plant in Challakere, Heggere, Chitradurga, Karnataka, India that operates direct reduced iron (DRI), electric arc furnace (EAF), and induction furnace (IF) technology.

Background

Prakash Industries Ltd was established in 1980.[1] Prakash Sponge Iron and Power Pvt Ltd was incorporated in 10 September 2007.[2] The company currently operates a DRI plant and induction furnaces at the plant. It has currently proposed the expansion of sponge iron production from 90 ttpa to 1,118 ttpa and steel capacity from 130 ttpa to 784 ttpa.[3][4]

The public hearing for the proposed expansion was conducted on 08 September 2023.[5]

As of October 2025, there has been no updates on the capacity expansion of the plant.
