Premium Steel Warri plant, also known as Premium Steel and Mines Limited, PSML, Delta Steel Company (DSC), Ovwian-Aladja (predecessor), Delta State (predecessor), is a steel plant in Warri, Delta, Nigeria that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) and direct reduced iron (DRI) technology.

Background

Originally owned by the Delta Steel Company, this was Nigeria’s first integrated steel complex. Due to low performance, political and financial issues, the plant has been dormant since 1995. The plant was sold in 2004 to GSHL/GINL for $30 million but they failed to repay loans thus leading the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) to buy it. AMCON then sold it to Premium Steel and Mines Limited, who originally did not take part in the bidding process. Since finding new ownership, there have been many efforts to revive the plant but it is unclear when it can reopen.[1]
