Background

The Prokopyevsky Coal Mine (Прокопьевский разрез) is an operating surface coal mine in Kemerovo Oblast, Russia.

The Prokopyevsky coal mine is an old surface mine owned and operated by Prokopyevsky Razrez JSC, a subsidiary of MelTEK.[5] It was sold to MelTEK by Siberian Business Union in December 2018.[6][7]

MelTEK stated in 2019 that it has carried out a significant modernization program since the acquisition, in particular the transportation equipment.[8]

There are no updates on the mine's operations since 2019. 1H 2022 production was 0.63 million tonnes, 19% higher than in the same period in 2021.[9]

Total production by MelTEK's mines (Prokopyevsky, Kiselevsky coal mine, Sibenergougol mine and Stepanovsky coal mine) in 2022 reached 3.462 million tonnes, which was 30% lower than in 2021.[10]
