Quest Carbon Capture and Storage Project is a proposal by Athabasca Oil Sands Project for a Carbon Capture and Storage Project with the Scotforad Upgrader oil sands project. The Government of Alberta states that the "project will integrate CCS technology at Shell Canada's Scotford oil sands upgrader, near Edmonton. The application of carbon capture and storage technology could capture up to 1.1 megatonnes of greenhouse gas emissions annually, a reduction of about 40 percent." (Athabasca Oil Sands Project is a joint venture of Shell Canada Energy (60%), Chevron Canada (20%) and Marathon Oil Sands L.P. (20 percent)).

In an interview Shell CEO Peter Voser sated that "if everything goes normally, you can expect an investment decision on it in 2012. It would sequester a million tonnes [of CO2] in our oil sands operations. I think this is extremely crucial for the oil sands business model."
