Background
Rembas Coal Mine is an UNDERGROUND coal mine in Resavica, Serbia. The mine is operated by the Public Company for Underground Coal Mining Resavica, which was established as per the government's decision in 2003.[8] It is a state-owned entity.
Rembas is a complex of three underground mines: Jelovac, Strmosten and Senjski Rudnik.[9][10]
The mine produced 0.169 million tonnes in 2017.[11]
In September 2023, Resavica reported that after a multi-year stoppage in the work of the "Jelovac" section, approval was received from the Ministry of Mining and Energy for the exploitation of field number 153, where 70,000 tonnes of coal per annum is planned to be extracted.[12]
Total production of Resavica's coal mines is 0.5-0.6 million tonnes per annum, according to a media article from 2021.[13] The company operates with a loss and subsidies make up as much as two thirds of all revenues.[13]
The Rembas coal mine produced 80,760 tonnes of coal in 2024, compared with a planned output of 120,000 tonnes, achieving 67% of the production target.[14]
