Background

The Suprabari Mapanindo Mineral (SMM) Coal Mine is a coal mine in Central Teweh, North Barito, Central Kalimantan province, Indonesia. It is operated by PT Tuah Turangga Agung (Turangga Resources), a subsidiary of United Tractors Tbk.[3][4] The Suprabari Mapanindo Mineral's mining area in Barito Utara Regency, Central Kalimantan spans a total area of 23,940 hectares, and consists of four mining blocks: Sekako, Lemo, Pendreh and Mosak.[3]

SMM produces coking coals, also known as metallurgical coals, which are used to make cokes, the essential ingredients for steel production. In 2019 SMM had succeeded in producing 2.3 million tons of coking coals, making it one of the biggest coking coal producers in Indonesia. To appeal to international markets, Turangga Resources established a Singapore-based subsidiary company, Cipta Coal Trading Pte. Ltd., which is responsible for marketing SMM's coal products globally and directly to users.[3]
