Coal handling

As of 2015, the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) Pier and Newport Pier reportedly had an annual capacity of five million tonnes of coal.[1]

Based on 2021 research, the KEPCO Pier (or KEPC Wharf) has a handling capacity of 7.2 million tons of coal per year. The Newport Pier has a 1.3 million ton capacity, but it is unclear if it handles coal. [2]

Labor unions have been calling for measures to stabilize employment at the port and nearby plants in the face of coal's decline. Workers at the port are also demanding measures to reduce the impacts of dust pollution.[3]
