Background
Sayano-Partizanskiy Coal Mine (Саяно-Партизанский разрез) is a surface mine in Krasnoyarsk Krai, Russia.[11] The mine is owned and operated by Razrez Sayano-Partizanskiy LLC, which is owned by Russian Coal.[12][13]
Mining commenced in 1991, but because of the unstable economical situation the mine was mothballed and only in 2003 the mining operations were resumed.[14]
The Sayano-Partizanskiy coal mine is different from the other mines in the Kansk-Achinsk basin as it produces Bituminous coal while the other mines mostly produce Lignite coal.[14]
The capacity of the mine is 3 million tonnes per annum.[11] Actual production has been lower, 1.3 million tonnes in 2020[15], 1.05 million tonnes over 10 months in 2021[16], 1 million tonnes during 9 months of 2022.[17] Production in the first half of 2023 reached 0.6 million tonnes[18] and as of August 2023, it planned to achieve 1.35 Mt production in the whole year.[9]
Coal is used domestically but is also exported to the Asian-Pacific markets.[15] In 2023, about 70% of coal was exported.[9]
In August 2023 the coal mine commenced work in a new section with a plan to increase production to 1.5 Mt.[9]
