Background
The Shanthikhani Coal mine is located in the village Akenepalli, Mandal Bellampalli, District Macherial, Telangana, India.[4] The mine, also known as the Shanthikhani Long Wall Project Underground coal mine, has a designed capacity of 1.167 MTPA on an area of 681.23 Ha. The Shanthikhani mine opened in 1954 and is owned by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL). The mine its Environment Clearance for expanded capacity of 1.167 MTPA from 0.8 MTPA on 24 January 2006.[5] At present, the mine has completed a depth of 450m, with further development plans up to a maximum depth of 670m relying on continuous miner, aoadheaders/bolter Miner and longwall methods.[4]
