Background

The oil pipeline "Surgut - Omsk - Pavlodar - Shymkent - Chardzhou" with a total length of over 3,000 kilometers was put into operation in three stages: 1977 - "Surgut - Omsk - Pavlodar", 1983 - "Pavlodar - Chimkent", 1989 year - "Chimkent - Chardzhou". The commissioning of three refineries in Pavlodar (1978 year) and Chimkent (1984) in Kazakhstan, as well as Chardzhovsk (1990) in Turkmenistan, intended for processing West Siberian oil, is associated with the oil pipeline.

After the collapse of the USSR and the cessation of supplies of West Siberian oil to Turkmenistan, the Shymkent-Chardzhou oil pipeline was put out of operation. In 1999 KazTransOil JSC mothballed it.[1]
