Southern Steel Prai Penang plant, also known as SSB plant, South Steel, Southern Steel Berhad, is a steel plant in Prai, Pulau Pinang, Malaysia that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

Background
Southern Steel Berhad, formerly known as Souther Iron & Steel Works was founded in 1963. The steelmaking plant was established in the 1980s. Southern Steel is the first plant outside of Japan to have a DC Electric Arc Furnace.[1] Hong Leong Group which owns Southern Steel in October 2023 announced that it is seeking to sell its majority stake in the company.[2] In January 2025, Southern Steel became a subsidiary of Green Esteel, holding a majority of 50.1% stake[3][4].
