Southern Steel Prai Penang plant, also known as SSB plant; South Steel, is an electric arc furnace (EAF) steel plant operating in Prai, Penang, Malaysia.

Background

Southern Steel Berhad, formerly known as Souther Iron & Steel Works was founded in 1963. The steelmaking plant was established in the 1980s. Southern Steel is the first plant outside of Japan to have a DC Electric Arc Furnace.[1] Hong Leong Group which owns Southern Steel in October 2023 announced that it is seeking to sell its majority stake in the company.[2]
