Background

Syllakhsky Coal Mine (Сыллахский угольный разрез) is a surface coal mine in Sakha, Russia.

AnthraciteInvestProject LLC is developing the project.[2][3]

The project was permitted by the State Review Committee 'Glavgosekspertiza' in July 2022.[4]

First production was expected in late 2022.[4] The project has a status of a resident of Preferential Territory of Yakutia. New land plots on the border of the Amur Region and Yakutia will be included in the boundaries of the project thanks to the support of the regional authorities. The status of a South Yakutia resident will give the company access to a wide range of state support measures - tax incentives, reduced insurance premium rates, as well as administrative preferences that will allow the company to get the maximum return on investment.[4]

The coalfield includes Tungurchinsky, Levo-Syllakhsky and Verhne-Nyrnikitinsky sections with reserves of 140 Mt.[4]

Before the end of 2022 the company also planned to commission a railway station Taluma which will connect to Baikal-Amur railway, to be used to transport produced coal to domestic consumers as well as for exports.[4]

The mine was commissioned in September 2022. The capacity of the first stage will be 1 million tonnes of coal. By 2025, the site is expected to produce 6.5 million tonnes of coal. A preparation plant with a capacity of 5 million tonnes will also be built. Development of the deposit is planned until 2046.[5]

As of September 2023, more than 600 thousand tonnes of coal has been been extracted, and in 2023 it is planned to extract 800 thousand tonnes. The plan for 2024 is already 2.5 million tonnes.[6]
