Tangshan Songting Iron and Steel Co Ltd (唐山长城钢铁集团松汀钢铁有限公司, 唐山松汀钢铁有限公司, 唐山市钢铁厂(前身), 河北钢铁集团松汀钢铁有限公司), also known as Tangshan Great Wall Iron and Steel Group Songting Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., Tangshan Iron and Steel Plant (predecessor), Hebei Iron and Steel Group Songting Iron and Steel Co., Ltd., is a steel plant in Tangshan, Hebei, China that operates blast furnace (BF) and basic oxygen furnace (BOF) technology.

Background

On May 23, 2019, the working group for strengthening supervision and designated assistance in key areas, which is part of the Blue Sky Defense War launched by the Ministry of Ecology and Environment, has pointed out that Tangshan Songting has many environmental problems. Now it has been listed as a steel enterprise to be rectified and reformed.[1]

On October 13, 2021, the Tangshan Songting Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. and 13 defendants are being prosecuted on suspicion of environmental pollution crimes. They are accused of removing the online monitoring device collection tubes during periods of heavy pollution emergencies to interfere with automatic monitoring and falsifying production shutdown data. They are also implicated in bribery and corruption. The defendant company and individuals have no objections, have voluntarily pleaded guilty, and have already paid fines in advance.[2]

According to the announcement of the capacity replacement plan in January 2022, the company plans to build one 1500m3 blast furnace to replace two 580m3 blast furnaces.[3][4] On July 14th, the capping of the furnace shells for the 1st to 4th hot blast stoves of the 1500 cubic meter blast furnace construction project in the old area of Tangshan Songting Iron and Steel, undertaken by China 22 Metallurgical Construction Group, was successfully accomplished.[5]
