Background

Global Mining China (GMC) had acquired 100% shareholding of Sino Sindh Resources Limited (SSRL). Shanghai Electric Group has acquired substantial stake of SSRL through GMC.[12] The area of 150 Sq. Km. was allocated to SSRL at Block-I, Thar Coalfield.

Financial close was achieved in December 2019 and completion in February 2023 at a cost of USD 812 million with 7.8 Mtpa of capacity.[12]

Coal is supplied Thar Block I power station with 2x 660 MW units commissioned in 2023.

An estimated 3.75 million tonnes of coal have been mined during 2023.[12]
