The Thy-Marcinelle company was started in 1763, originally with a blast furnace producing only iron. In 1989, the company was acquired by the Riva Group and a new EAF based steel plant was constructed.[1]
In 2024, Thy-Marcinelle acquired the adjascent Carsid agglomeration site to expand their operations in order to relocated byproduct material, such as slag, away from city limits and enhance their scrap storage and sorting capabilities.[2]
