Background on Mine
The Kuju coal mines are owned by Central Coalfields Limited (a subsidiary of Coal India).[7]
In 1982 a large portion of the Topa coal mine collapsed killing 17 people. Miners had reportedly raised their concerns bout the structure of the mine before the accident occurred. [8]
