Background

The Tugrugnuur coal mine (Tugrug Nuur) is a surface coal mine in eastern Mongolia. In July 2010, Ming Hing Waterworks Holdings acquired Tugrug Nuur coal mine, which was previously owned by Well Delight Holdings. The company planned to begin operations by Q4 of that same year.

At that time, Tugrug Nuur was estimated to have 92 million tons of coal, mainly thermal coal used for fuel. The coal mine is expected to produce 100,000 tons each month, totaling 300,000 tons in the first three months of operation. The annual production was targeted to ramp up to 2 million tons in 2011 and to reach 8 million tons by 2019.[1]

Because there has been little to no public updates about this mine in recent years, its current status is unclear.
