Background

Uitkomst Colliery is an underground coal mine near Newcastle, KwaZulu Natal Province, South Africa.[2] Uitkomst Colliery is located some 20 kilometers northwest of Utrecht and 23 km northeast of Newcastle in South Africa's KwaZulu-Natal province. A bord and pillar operation, it is jointly owned by MC Mining and Black Economic Empowerment partner, including inter alia employees and local communities.[2] It has an average run-of-mine of 50,000 tonnes per month, of which 34,000 tonnes, on average, is saleable. Uitkomst sells sized coal (peas) products and a 0 - 40mm product into the domestic metallurgical market for use as pulverised coal. The peas are supplied to local energy generation facilities.[2]

The colliery has a 16-year life of mine which it plans to eventually extend via plans to mine the Klipspruit property (North Mine) situated directly to the north of current operations.[3]
