Background

UltraTech Cement Limited is part of the Aditya Birla group. UltraTech Cement is the largest manufacturer of grey cement and ready-mix concrete (RMC) and one of the largest manufacturers of white cement in India.

UltraTech Cement Limited (UTCL) acquired Integrated cement plants and grinding units of Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. (JAL), including mining leases and existing cement plant at Dalla Cement Works as well as the Dalla Super Cement Works plant at Sonebhadra district of Uttar Pradesh, India. Environment Clearance for setting up of Dalla Super Cement Works (DSCW) was obtained from MoEFCC, in September 2010 by JAL and the consent to establish was obtained from Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Boards in October 2010. Construction of different units of the Cement Plant and ancillary facilities was partly done. However, JAL could not commence the plant operation due to the court case related to land following which UltraTech acquired the plant.
