Background
Yevtinsky-Perspektivny coal mine (разрез Евтинский Перспективный) is an operating surface mine in the Belovsky District in the Kemerovo Oblast, Russia. The Yevtinsky-Perspektivny coal mine is a surface mine operated by Shakhta Belovskaya CJSC (ЗАО Шахта Беловская), which in turn is owned by Karakan Invest.[3] In late 2021 Karakan Invest was acquired by EcoCarbonInvest.[4]
Shakhta Belovskaya CJSC also owns the Karakansky-Zapadny coal mine[5].
Karakan Invest is creating the coal energy cluster merging the extraction, processing and generating capacities of the Karakansky coal deposits including underground coal gasification on the site and production of coal to liquid fuel.[6] Karakan Invest further includes a logistics company Belcommerce, an engineering company Promishlennik and the trading company Karakan Energo Trade.[7]
The construction of the Yevtinsky-Perspektivny mine was completed in 2019 with capacity of 3 million tonnes.[8] It was financed by a loan from Gazprombank.[9]
Most of the operating indicators and investment plans are reported by Karakan Invest jointly for the Karakansky-Zapadny coal mine and the Yevtinsky Perspektivny. Joint production reached 4.8 million tonnes in 2021 and 4.7 million tonnes in 2022.[10][11] In 2020 it was 4.4 million tonnes in 2020[12], of which 2.1 contributed by Karakansky-Zapadny coal mine[13] and 2.3 million by Yevtinsky Perspektivny coal mine.[8] The coal produced by Yevtinsky-Perspektivy is the same grade (Grade D), but has a higher calorific value (over 6500kcal/kg) which benefits from higher market demand.[13] No separate mine production figures were available for 2021, 2022 or 2023. The mine's 2023 production was estimated as half of the joint production.
About half of the coal produced is exported.[12]
In February 2023, the mine achieved cumulative coal production of 10 million tonnes since the start of operations.[14]
In the first half of 2024, joint production of the two mines reached 1.6 million tonnes, a 4% decrease vs the same period in 2023.[15]
