Background

Yubileynaya coal mine (Юбилейная шахта) is an operating underground mine near the city of Novokuznetsk, in the Siberian region of Kemerovo, Russia.

The Yubileynaya coal mine is owned and operated by Skahkta Yubileynaya LLC, which in turn is owned by TopProm.[3][4]

Mining at Yubileynaya started in 1966 as Baydayevskaya-Severnaya No.1.[5]

In 2007, 38 miners died in the mine following an explosion.[6] From 2010 to 2013 the mine was mothballed.[7] In February 2013, EVRAZ Group sold the mine to TopProm.[8] In 2013 the mine was significantly upgraded. In 2016 regular coal output was restarted.[7]

The mine is part of a mining-and-washing complex, with 3 washing plants- Shchedrukhinskaya, Taibinskaya and Koksovaya.[7][9]

In February 2021, one miner died following a collapse in the mine, but it resumed operations the next day.[10]

In April 2022, mining operations were suspended for 90 days due to non-compliance with the safety requirements.[11]

Fire incident was registered at the mine in October 2022, with no fatalities reported.[12] In April 2023, more than 140 miners were evacuated due to elevated levels of gas pollution at the mine.[13]

The mine's production in 2022 was 0.92 million tonnes, only 43% of 2021 level.[14]

In January 2023 TopProm acquired the mothballed underground mine Abashevskaya, closed in 2014.[15] Some remaining reserves of Abashevskaya may be accessed via Yubileynaya coal mine.[15]
