Background
The 64 MW power station that opened in 1974 was located in Slaskie Province, Poland, and was owned by Spółka Energetyczna Jastrzębie.[3]
In October 2013, Spółka Energetyczna Jastrzębie (SEJ) announced plans to build a new unit at the Zofiówka Mine power station. The new unit was expected to use circulating fluidized bed (CFB) technology and generate 75 MW of electricity.[4]
In August 2016, PGNiG Termika purchased SEJ and its combined heat and power (CHP) plants from Jastrzębska Spółka Węglowa (JSW).[5]
In November 2018, Unit 3 with 81 MW of electricity capacity began operating. The unit reportedly runs on coal, coal mine methane from the KWK Borynia-Zofiówka-Bzie Coal Mine, agricultural biomass, and light heating oil.[6][7]
