Eraring Energy is a government-owned business which was established in August 2000. On its website the company states that it has electricity-generating assets located throughout New South Wales with "a combined generating capacity of over 3,000 megawatts (MW), including Eraring Power Station at 2,640MW, which is Australia’s equal largest."[1]
Current coal-fired power stations
On its website the company states that "construction of Eraring Power Station started in 1977. The first generating unit went into service in 1982, the second and third units in 1983, and the fourth unit was commissioned in 1984."[2]
The power station consumer approximately 5.2 million tonnes a year which the company states is "sourced from five mines in the local area." The company also states that approximately half the fly ash is "sold for use in the manufacture of concrete and building products and in road base" with the ash handling plant collecting furnace ash "and economiser grits and conveys them as slurry to the ash disposal area."[3]
