Background
The GNA V power station was one of five gas-fired power plants originally proposed by GNA (Gás Natural Açu) at the Port of Açu in Rio de Janeiro state. The others were known as GNA I, GNA II, GNA III and GNA IV.
As of September 2025, GNA I and GNA II had already begun operating (in September 2021[8][9][10] and June 2025[11], respectively), while GNA III and GNA IV remained under consideration for future development.[12][13] Project developer Gás Natural Açu entered GNA V as a participant in Brazil's national energy auctions in September 2021[2][3], but the project subsequently disappeared from the news.
As of September 2025, in the absence of further news about GNA V for more than four years, the project was presumed to be cancelled.
