Network background

Hubei Province is located in the middle of south China. Several national level long distance gas pipelines, such as West-East II gas pipeline, Sichuan-Shanghai gas pipeline, Xinjiang Coal-to-Gas Pipeline, Huai'an-Wuhan and Wuzhong-Wuhan connecting pipelines pass through it, bringing plenty of gas source to the province.

According to Hubei Province 14th Five-Year-Plan on Energy Sector (2021-2025), the province has 5750 kilometers of gas pipeline mileage by the end of 2020, including the national level trunk pipelines within Hubei and the provincial brach network. It plans to add another 1300 kilometers by 2025, reaching 7050 kilometers, aiming to cover every county in the province (县县通).

West To East Gas Transmission Branch of National Petroleum Pipeline Network Group Co., Ltd. 国家石油天然气管网集团有限公司西气东输分公司 is the owner of the major chunk gas pipelines in the province. Its Wuhan Branch is in charge of 1964 kilometers of gas pipeline in the province.

Hubei Natural Gas Development Co., Ltd. 湖北省天然气发展有限公司 owns 647 kilometers of gas pipeline assets by October 2020. It is the major planner, constructor and operator for the provincial gas pipeline network. PipeChina owns 49% of its shares since 2020.
