The JSW Tuticorin Multipurpose Terminal is an operating dry-bulk terminal at North Cargo Berth III (NCB-III) of V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, India. The terminal can handle coal and coke, limestone, gypsum, rock phosphate and copper concentrate.
Location
The terminal is located at NCB-III on the northern side of V.O. Chidambaranar Port.
Background
The civil structure of NCB-III was constructed by V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority and was completed by March 2022. The berth was initially intended to increase the port's capacity for coal and other dry-bulk cargoes.[1]
On July 2, 2024, V.O. Chidambaranar Port signed a concession agreement with JSW Tuticorin Multipurpose Terminal Private Limited for the development and mechanization of NCB-III under a design-build-finance-operate-transfer arrangement.[2]
The project has a designed annual capacity of 6.96–7 mtpa. The capacity applies to the terminal's entire dry-bulk cargo mix. Planned equipment includes two ship unloaders rated at approximately 2,000 tonnes per hour each and a conveyor system rated at approximately 4,000 tonnes per hour.[2]
Interim cargo operations began using mobile harbour cranes. In May 2025, the port formally authorized JSW to begin interim operations for coal and coke, limestone, gypsum, rock phosphate and copper concentrate.[3]
The terminal handled coal during interim operations in 2025.[4]
