Kamarajar Port Coal Berth 1

Kamarajar Port Coal Berth 1 is an operating captive coal import terminal at Kamarajar Port in Tamil Nadu, India. The berth handles thermal coal for power stations operated by Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited (TNPGCL), the successor generation company to TANGEDCO.

Background

Coal Berth 1 was one of the port's first two coal berths. Commercial coal-handling operations at Kamarajar Port began in June 2001.[1]

The berth has an annual coal-handling capacity of 8 million tonnes. It is 280 metres long, has an alongside depth of 16 metres, and can accommodate coal carriers of up to approximately 77,000 deadweight tonnes. Coal is unloaded using mechanized equipment and transferred by conveyor to the adjoining North Chennai Thermal Power Station coal yard.[2][3]

Kamarajar Port identifies Tamil Nadu Power Generation Corporation Limited as the operator of Coal Berth 1.[4]
