Kamarajar Port Coal Berth 2

Kamarajar Port Coal Berth 2 is an operating captive coal import terminal at Kamarajar Port in Tamil Nadu, India. The berth is operated by NTPC Tamil Nadu Energy Company Limited (NTECL), which operates the nearby Vallur Thermal Power Plant.[1]

Background

Coal Berth 2 was developed as one of Kamarajar Port's first two dedicated coal berths. Commercial coal-handling operations at the port began in June 2001.[2]

The berth has an annual coal-handling capacity of 8 million tonnes. It is 280 metres long, has an alongside depth of 16 metres, and can accommodate coal carriers of up to approximately 77,000 deadweight tonnes. Coal is unloaded through mechanized facilities and evacuated by conveyor.[3][4]
