Kamarajar Port SICAL Coal Terminal was a proposed common-user coal terminal conversion at Kamarajar Port in Tamil Nadu, India. The project involved converting an existing but unused iron-ore terminal developed by Sical Iron Ore Terminals Limited (SIOTL) to handle coal.
Location
The terminal was proposed for Kamarajar Port, approximately 20km north of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India.
Background
Kamarajar Port signed a modified agreement with SIOTL on July 11, 2016 for the conversion of the existing terminal into a 12 million-tonne-per-year coal terminal. The project was not completed or commissioned. Following financial default by the concessionaire, Kamarajar Port issued a termination notice in March 2021, and termination took effect on June 20, 2021.[1]
