Background

Kharkharee Colliery (also spelled "Kharkhari") was an underground coal mine operated by Bharat Coking Coal Limited (BCCL), a subsidiary of Coal India, in Dhanbad, Jharkhand, India.[5]

Although the Kharkharee UG mine's closure date is unclear, it is no longer operating.[6] Kharkharee mine was part of Cluster No. 15 (BCCL), which also included the Madhuband, Phularitand mine, and Dharmaband mines.[7] Bharat Coking Coal Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, operated the Cluster 15 coal mines.[5]

A major geological fault divided the Kharkharee mine into an area on the northern side of the fault line and an area on the southern side. All mining activities were limited to the northern side.[8]
