Background
Luchegorsky coal mine (Лучегорский угольный разрез) is a surface mine in Primorsky Krai, Russia.
The Luchegorsky coal mine is operated by Luchegorsky Razrez JSC, which is now part of SUEK.[14]
In 2020, RusHydro completed an asset swap which transferred the ownership of the plant and the Luchegorsky coal mine to Andrey Melnichenko, the majority owner of the Siberian Coal Energy Company (SUEK). In June 2020 the asset swap was completed with SUEK becoming the owner of the Primorsky power station and the Luchegorsky mine.[15]
Luchegorsky coal mine consists of two sections 1 and 2. All coal is supplied to Primorsky power station[16] in close proximity to the mine.
In 2020 the mine produced 4 million tonnes.[16] As of 2022, the mine planned to increase production up to 5 million tonnes thanks to modern transportation equipment.[17][18] Prior to joining SUEK, the mine used low-capacity equipment, but most of the mining and transportation equipment was being replaced. In 2022, 15-cube excavators and 130 and 140-tonne dump trucks were delivered that should allow the Luchegorsky coal mine to considerably increase productivity.[19]
2023 production reached 5 million tonnes, so it appeared that the expansion has been achieved.[13] 2024 production was at the same level.[20]
2024 marked 50 years since the start of operations at the mine and it has produced a total of 250 million tonnes.[20]
