Michael Egan

Michael Egan is a former New South Wales Treasurer who, in July 2010, was appointed as Chairman of the Newcastle Coal Infrastructure Group (NCIG), a consortium of six major coal companies which own and operate the the NCIG Coal Export Terminal.[1]

The outgoing Chairman, Tony Galligan, said of Egan that "as the longest-serving Treasurer in our State’s history Michael Egan has an unrivalled perspective on the importance of enabling infrastructure like NCIG to the future prosperity of New South Wales."[1]

The NCIG stated that:

"Michael Egan was Treasurer of New South Wales for a record term from 1995 to 2005 and is currently Chancellor of Macquarie University, Chairman of the Centenary Institute of Cancer Medicine and Cell Biology, the Australian Fisheries Management Authority Commission and the Australia Day Council of New South Wales. He was also Minister for State Development, Minister for Energy, Leader of the Government in the Legislative Council and Acting Premier on a number of occasions."[1]
