North Queensland Bulk Ports

From Global Energy Monitor

North Queensland Bulk Ports (NQBP) is a government owned company which owns and operates port facilities at Hay Point, Mackay, Abbot Point, Weipa and Maryborough. "NQBP ports handle bulk shipments of coal, bauxite, sand, sugar, grain, petroleum and general cargo. Coal is by far the main commodity handled, but each port and each commodity is important in its own right," the company states on its website.[1]

Coal ports

NQBP operates the Port of Hay Point, which is approximately 40 kilometres south of Mackay, and the Port of Abbot Point, which is located approximately 25 kilometres north of Bowen.

The Port of Hay Point comprises the two separate coal export terminals. These are the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal (DBCT), which is leased from the State Government by the private company, DBCT Management Pty Ltd, and the Hay Point Coal Terminal (HPCT), which is owned and operated by BHP Billiton Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA).[2]

The Port of Abbot Point includes the Abbot Point Coal Terminal.[3]
