Orion Regina Steel plant, also known as Evraz Regina Steel plant, Regina Works, is a steel plant in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.
Location
The map below shows the exact location of the plant in Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada:
- Location: Evraz Regina, P.O. Box 1670, 100 Armour Road, Regina, Saskatchewan S4P 3C7, Canada
- Coordinates (WGS 84): 50.51499, -104.630589 (exact)
Background
Evraz Regina began operating in 1961 and was formerly a part of IPSCO Tubular.[1] It has two electric arc furnaces, one 133-tonne furnace that began operating in 2007 and a second furnace that began operating in 1981.[2]
In November 2020, it was announced that up to 80% of Evraz Regina's workforce would be laid off in coming months due to Covid's impacts; however, it is unclear if that has happened yet.[3] In 2021, Evraz Regina was fined 935 thousand CAD for workplace injuries that occurred in 2019.[4]
In 2022, Evraz announced plans to sell the Regina steel plant, citing sanctions on Russia resulting from the invasion of Ukraine.[5] Layoffs of over 100 workers were announced in early 2023 due to drops in demand for pipes.[6]
In August, 2025, Evraz Inc NA Canada was acquired by Atlas Holdings, with the resulting company taking the name Orion Steel Companies.[7]
Trans Mountain Oil Pipeline
More than 75% of the 800 km steel pipe for the expansion of the Trans Mountain Oil Pipeline will be manufactured at Evraz Regina Steel according to Pipelines International.[8] The Trans Mountain Oil Pipeline reported that Evraz Regina Steel will be supplying 250,000 tonnes of steel pipe in this agreement.[9]
