The Paradip Western Dock Terminal is a proposed dry-bulk terminal at Paradip Port in Paradip, Odisha, India. The project will be operated by Jindal Paradip Port Limited (JPPL) under a build-operate-transfer concession from the Paradip Port Authority.
Location
The terminal is situated at the confluence of the Mahanadi river and the Bay of Bengal.
Background
Paradip Port Authority awarded the concession for the proposed terminal to JPPL on October 17, 2023. The project includes construction of the Western Dock, deepening of the inner harbour and navigation channel, and facilities capable of handling Capesize vessels.[1]
The terminal is designed to handle 25 million tonnes of dry-bulk and break-bulk cargo annually. Planned commodities include imported coal and limestone and exported steel products. Its equipment includes ship-unloaders, coal silos, wagon loaders, mobile harbour cranes, stacker-reclaimers and rail-mounted gantry cranes.[2]
The original concession schedule provided for Phase I, with 12.5 million tonnes of annual capacity, within 36 months of the concession award, and the full 25-million-tonne capacity within 60 months.[3] This corresponds approximately to Phase I in 2026 and full capacity in 2028. Paradip Port Authority subsequently reported that the first phase was scheduled for completion in 2026.[4]
