Background

The mine is owned by Rockies Mining Ltd (RML).[1]

Project Details

Location: Near Granity on the West Coast of the South Island, 28 km northeast of Westport. It is close to the Stockton mine, where Solid Energy mines an area called “Rockies”.[2]

Historical background: Rockies has been a working mine on and off for many years under licences that expired in 2010. A new, single mining permit was granted in October 2010 and resource consents were granted by the Buller District Council and the West Coast Regional Council in April 2012. The Department of Conservation also granted the Access Arrangement and Concession that were required and RML is now able to undertake mining for the rest of the mine life.[3]
