SNGP Loop Gas Pipeline is an operating gas pipeline in Oman.[1]

Location

The pipeline runs from Saih Nihayda Gas Plant to near Al Kamil, where it ties in to the Saih Rawl–Sur gas pipeline.[1]

Project Details

  • Operator: OQGN[1]
  • Capacity: 60 million cubic meters per day[3]
  • Length: 265 km[3]
  • Diameter: 48 in[4]
  • Status: Operating[1]
  • Start year: 2006[5]
  • Cost: US$200 million[3]

Background

In 2003, a 48 in, 265 km pipeline was proposed to run from the Saih Nihayda Gas Plant to the Oman LNG terminal in Sur. It was expected to come online in 2005 with a capacity of 60 million cubic meters per day. It was intended to fuel the third train of the terminal.[3]

A 2004 report by Petroleum Development Oman noted that "the construction of the Saih Nihayda Gas Plant and the laying of a 48-inch loop pipeline from the SNGP to the vicinity of Al Kamil fell slightly behind plan in 2004", indicating the route had changed and would end near Al Kamil instead of extending all the way to Sur.[4]

The third train of the LNG terminal came online in 2006, and it is assumed that the loopline was completed around the same time. Maps produced after 2006 show the loopline from Saih Nihayda to near Al Kamil, a distance that would roughly match the original 265 km proposal.[1][5]

In 2025, the Central Rich and Lean Gas Pipeline essentially connected the SNGP loopline to the Oman LNG terminal in Sur.[6][1]
