Siam Yamato Steel Rayong plant (เหล็กสยามยามาโตะ), also known as Siam Yamato Steel II (SYS II), Siam Yamato Steel Huai Pong plant, is a steel plant in Maptaphut, Rayong, Thailand that operates electric arc furnace (EAF) technology.

Background

Siam Yamato Steel Co., Ltd was established in 1992 to produce hot-rolled structural steel. It is a joint venture between Yamato Kogyo Co., Ltd. Mitsui & Co., Ltd, The Siam Cement Public Company Limited, Sumitomo Corporation (Thailand) Co., Ltd., and Mitsui & Co. (Thailand) Co., Ltd.[1] The company owns and operates two steel plants (Siam Yamato Steel I and Siam Yamato Steel II) in the Muang District of Rayong, Thailand.[2] In 2024, the company announced a partnership with the SMS group's Brazilian subsidiary, Vetta, aiming at implementing an AI technology to optimize energy consumption, improve operational efficiency and reduce environmental impact[3].
