Tawa Coal Mine

The Tawa coal mine is operated by Western Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India, near village Hirapalli, Tehsil Ghoradongri, District Betul, Madhya Pradesh, India.[1]

In response to a right of information request in 2021, the Tawa III mine is listed by the Government of India as an active new mine project.[2]

Background on Mine

The mine is an underground operation with a designed capacity of 0.6 MTPA on a lease area of 520 Ha. It is operated by South Eastern Coalfields Limited, a subsidiary of Coal India.[1] The coal is primarily for use for Satpura Thermal Power Station after the exhaustion of the Pathakhera underground mines which supplied the coal to the plant before.[3]
