Background
The Tevshiin Govi (or Tevshiin Gobi) Coal Mine is an operating surface coal mine in Dundgovi Province, Mongolia. The Tevshiin Govi coal mine is a surface lignite coal mine. It is operated by Mogul Energy LLC. As of 2021, it was producing only about 50,000 tons per year.[1][2]
As of October 2023, there have been no further updates, and the project appeared to be mothballed.
As of March 2026, no further developments had been reported on the mine or its expansion plans.
Proposed expansion
The mine's owner, Mogul Energy LLC, had plans to expand the mine to 3 million MTPA, and to build a mine-mouth coal power plant, Tevshiin Gobi power station, which would be powered by coal from the mine.[1] As of 2021, the plant project appeared to be helved, thereby shelving the proposed mine expansion. As of June 2023, with no further developments, the project appeared to cancelled.
Owner
The project's owner, Mogul Energy LLC, is a Mongolian company that is apparently backed by two funds managed by an affiliate of New York-based Firebird Management LLC.[3]
