Background

The Tevshiin Govi (or Tevshiin Gobi) Coal Mine is an operating surface coal mine in Dundgovi Province, Mongolia.

The Tevshiin Govi coal mine is a surface lignite coal mine. It is operated by Mogul Energy LLC. It is currently producing only about 50,000 tons per year.[1][2]

As of October 2023, there have been no further updates, and the project appeared to be mothballed.

Proposed expansion

The mine's owner, Mogul Energy LLC, has plans to expand the mine to 3 million MTPA, and to build a mine-mouth coal power plant, Tevshiin Gobi power station, which would be powered by coal from the mine.[1] As of 2021, the plant project appears shelved, thereby shelving the proposed mine expansion.

Owner

The project's owner, Mogul Energy LLC, is a Mongolian company that is apparently backed by two funds managed by an affiliate of New York-based Firebird Management LLC.[3]
