Location
The port Tokuyamakudamatsu is located in the middle of the coast of the Seto Inland Sea in Yamaguchi Prefecture
Coal
The Port is the site of the Kudamatsu Coal Transshipment Terminal. Imports include coal from the NCIG Coal Export Terminal and Newcastle Port in Australia.[1][2][3] Also from Indonesia's Samarindain east Kalimantan. [2][4] And US.[5]
2025 Expansion
In May 2025 Tokuyama-Kudamatsu Port completed a new deep-water coal pier in the Kudamatsu district, built under the (Tokuyama-Kudamatsu Port International Logistics Terminal Development Project). The pier has a water depth of 19 meters and a length of 390 meters, described by the Chugoku Regional Development Bureau as the deepest public pier in Japan . A completion and commissioning ceremony was held on 25 May 2025, timed to coincide with the arrival of the first Capesize vessel, and the facility is operated by Yamaguchi Port Operation Co., Ltd. This expansion increased the port's coal handling capacity to 11 million tons per year.[6]
