Kakinada Gateway Port Coal Berth is a planned coal-handling berth at the greenfield Kakinada Gateway Port near Kona in Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh, India. It is separate from the coal-handling facilities at the existing Kakinada Port.[1]
Location
The berth is planned at Kakinada Gateway Port near Kona, Andhra Pradesh.
Background
The port's current first-phase plan comprises one dedicated coal berth and two general-cargo berths. The stated capacity of 16 million tonnes per annum applies to all three berths combined; a separate annual capacity for the coal berth has not been identified. The coal berth is planned for both domestic use and exports.[2]
The Government of Andhra Pradesh reported that construction had begun and that the project had reached 22.57% overall physical progress by November 2024. In February 2026, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways continued to list Kakinada SEZ Port among Andhra Pradesh's ports under construction. The coal berth is planned for completion in 2027.[3][4]
