Background

The Listvyanichny coal mine is owned by Kuzbass Fuel Company (Kuzbasskaya Toplivnaya Company JSC, or KTK).[2] In December 2022, Omega LLC acquired 99.66% in KTK from Millfast Trading Limited, Kilton Overseas Limited and Daenia Holdings Limited, the transaction was approved by the Russian President, Vladimir Putin.[3] This is part of Russia's response to nationalise energy companies previously held in foreign jurisdictions.[4]

The mine was completed in 2019.[5][6] The area is heavily mined and the Listvianichny mine is surrounded by other coal mines of KTK - Cheremshansky coal mine, Karakansky South coal mine, Vinogradovsky coal mine.

Over 75% of coal produced by KTK mines is exported.[7]
